Cultural Humility, Equity, and Belonging:A trauma-informed approach to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
Global and national events over the last few years have highlighted inequities that have existed forgenerations. This training brings a trauma-informed approach to equity and cultural humility. We willexplore the impact of micro-aggressions (insidious trauma) and implicit bias, specifically as it relatesto education and school climate and culture. We will also consider the interconnected relationshipbetween trauma, equity, and resilience.
Participants will:- explore the relationship between trauma, equity, and resilience- describe the impacts of insidious trauma and implicit bias- distinguish cultural competency from cultural humility- consider ways to enhance personal cultural humility while honoring cultural resilience in othersThis training may not be 100% comfortable, and that is appropriate as we together address age-oldenvironments, structures, and experiences that perpetuate trauma. We will practice mindfulness tosupport our distress tolerance throughout the training. We invite you to enter a brave space where weall can engage in the work of transformation.
